Sauda Golf Club

Testing conditions and a limited budget meant creating a golf course in the mountains surrounding Sauda was a challenge at which Niblick excelled

The mountains are quite steep and fall straight into the sea, so there weren't many places to build nine holes never mind 18.

Initially I thought we couldn't afford them because they were too professional and expensive. In hindsight, we wouldn't have afforded to do without them.

Niblick's View

“The first thing that enthused me about Sauda was the people,” says Brian. “They bowled me over because they had made such a big effort to get their golf course going. It made me want to make a big effort for them. They didn’t have much money but they worked tirelessly to make the project work. It was a great pleasure to create a golf course in such a wonderful location for wonderful people.”

Graeme agrees: “They had the idea to create a golf course, but it was up to us to create it for them. They needed a good architect to come up with a routing through a very tight site. We tried to use all the outer edges of the site to make sure we got amazing backdrops on each hole, which I think we managed to do.”
